A Smarter Workflow for Image Conversion and Compression
Choose the right format, preserve quality and reduce image size with confidence.
Image conversion is not only about changing a file extension. The right workflow balances visual quality, transparency, compatibility and download size.
Choose the destination format
Use JPG for photographs when broad compatibility matters. PNG is useful for transparency and crisp interface graphics. WebP often provides a good balance of quality and small size for modern websites. GIF is best reserved for simple animation, while ICO is intended for icons.
Resize before compressing
An image that is much larger than its display area wastes bandwidth. Set the dimensions first, then apply compression. Keep an original copy so you can create another version later without repeated quality loss.
Check transparency and detail
Conversions can remove transparent backgrounds or soften fine text. Preview the result at its actual display size and inspect edges, gradients and small details. Compare file size only after confirming the image still looks right.
Process consistently
For a group of related images, use the same dimensions and quality target. DTool image utilities make common conversions quick, but a consistent naming and review process is what keeps a website polished and fast.
